Earth-shattering, apocalyptic Biblical predictions such as wars and rumours of wars or the mark of the beast system described in the book of Revelation are what most people envision by the word “prophecy”.
Seldom do we think about prophecy as being about the behaviour and fate of people and by extension, our own personal behaviour and destiny. This prophetic briefing should make you rethink that.
Most of us think of Jesus as a Saviour and Lord but not many of us recognize or understand his role as prophet. That is because to many Christians, “prophet” means the Old Testament names such as Isaiah or Ezekiel or Jeremiah.
Surprisingly the religion of Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet, although all things considered, that is not much of an endorsement.
Jesus made many prophetic statements while on earth. Some were fulfilled in his lifetime here (e.g. that Peter would deny him three times) and some were fulfilled shortly after his ascension (e.g. destruction of the temple, which actually occurred circa AD 70).
In Hebrews chapter 1 and 2, Scripture warns us about attending to the words of Jesus:
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Hebrews 1:1-2
Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. Hebrews 2:1 NKJ
