Spiritual Warfare for Barbados Part 1

Spiritual Warfare for Barbados Part 1

Last Updated on January 18, 2026 2:23 PM by herald

This morning’s prayer for Barbados on The Marcia Weekes Show (TMWS) was very timely and refreshing.  The prayer leaders delivered very powerful supplications clearly powered by the Holy Spirit.

We see this development as a kingdom follow-up to the two ‘messages’ we delivered last year on the show about how to solve the crisis we are facing in Barbados.   You can find the gist of these two messages in writing here on our website. Here is the link to part 2.

Forward

This public prayer project must continue and permeate all through the length and breadth of Barbados into and after the next election.  But it must intensity and develop a laser focus if we are to have a definitive and lasting breakthrough revival in our country.

From this non-denominational TKC Ministries we want to share some knowledge about spiritual warfare to help sharpen the focus. Everything we are going to say is based on and backed up by Scripture – as it should be – so you can follow along in your Bible.

What it is

In a nutshell, spiritual warfare is the ongoing battle between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness led by Satan aka Lucifer. If you know your Bible you already know that this battle began in Heaven a long, long  time ago!

But many Christians do not understand that they are AUTOMATICALLY drafted into this warfare. How so?  Apart from having our sins forgiven and becoming a new creation, concepts which most of us understand very well, here is what Scripture says about what happens when we become believers.

He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. Colossians 1:13

What this verse means is that every true believer has been inducted into citizenship in the Kingdom of God.  Paul backs this up in Ephesians 2: 12 -13.  It follows, therefore, that ALL BELIEVERS are involved in spiritual warfare regardless to whether they are aware of it or not. Many believers are AWOL with regard to spiritual warfare to their great disadvantage.

James, the Apostle, meant ALL believers when he said this:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 ESV

Invisible But Real

The Kingdom of God is a sovereign ‘territory’ just like how Barbados is a sovereign country.  But the Kingdom of God is not a republic like Barbados. It is called a KINGDOM because it is ruled by a king. The King of the Universe.  There are still earthly, physical kingdoms or monarchies in existence today. For example: the kingdoms of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Andorra, Jordan, to name a few.

Perhaps many Christians do not give God the full respect due because they do not see him as a real king? But that is another discussion for another time.

Every kingdom, every political state has a territory.  The ‘territory’ of the Kingdom of God is fundamentally INVISIBLE because it is SPIRITUAL.  But that makes it MORE REAL than the physical world for this reason:

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was NOT made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:13 BSB

That is precisely why Scripture tells us that the warfare in which the two kingdoms are engaged is not a warfare against “flesh and blood” (Ephesians 6:12).  In other words, it is not a war against visible human beings. It often looks that way but once you get to understand it, you realize it is not.

What we are fighting against is invisible personalities or forces which can influence visible human beings – our family, neighbours, organizations and government leaders – to act or behave in bizarre, sinful and evil ways.

Don’t let the word personality distract you.  A personality is a living, conscious entity. One does not have to possess a physical body to be a person. Remember God is a Spirit, but you cannot see him (John 4:24).  Let that sink in.

Conclusion

So spiritual warfare cannot be fought with swords and spears or physical bombs and bullets. If we are going to successfully engage in spiritual warfare, we need to understand that the conflict is spiritual in nature.  But what does that mean exactly? That is what we will discuss in detail in part 2 to be posted on Sunday 18 January.
